Mixed infection in adult post-neurosurgical bacterial meningitis: a hospital-based study.
BACKGROUND Post-neurosurgical (post-NS) adult bacterial meningitis (ABM) with mixed infection is rarely examined solely in the literature. METHODS The clinical features and laboratory data of post-NS ABM patients with mixed infection were included for analysis. RESULTS Totally 170 post-NS ABM cases were identified and 18 (11 men and 7 women, aged 20-77 years, median = 57.5) of them had a mi...
متن کاملThird-generation cephalosporin resistance in Shigella sonnei, Argentina.
Shigella sonnei resistant to cefotaxime (but not to ceftazidime) was isolated for the first time in stool samples from a pediatric patient with vomiting and bloody diarrhea in northern Argentina. Microbiologic and biochemical tests confirmed the presence of an extended spectrum beta-lactamase displaying an apparent isoelectric point value of 8.2.
متن کاملPost-neurosurgical meningitis; gram negative bacilli vs. gram positive cocci
Background: Post-neurosurgical meningitis is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity. In this study we aimed to compare the differences of clinical, laboratory features and outcomes between the post-neurosurgical meningitis caused by gram-negative bacilli (GNB) and gram-positive cocci (GPC). Methods: Cases of post-neurosurgical meningitis (with positive CSF culture) were included. After...
متن کاملThird-generation cephalosporin resistance of community-onset Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremia in a secondary hospital
BACKGROUND/AIMS To enable appropriate antimicrobial treatment for community-onset infections in emergency departments (EDs), data are needed on the resistance profiles of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, which are the main pathogens of community-onset bacteremia. METHODS Records were reviewed of 734 patients with E. coli and K. pneumoniae bacteremia who visited the Daegu Fatima Hos...
متن کاملThird-Generation Cephalosporin–Resistant Vibrio cholerae, India
Vibrio cholerae resistance to third-generation cephalosporins is rarely reported. We detected a strain that was negative for extended-spectrum β-lactamase and positive for the AmpC disk test, modified Hodge test, and EDTA disk synergy test and harbored the blaDHA-1 and blaNDM-1 genes. The antimicrobial drug susceptibility profile of V. cholerae should be monitored.
